Why Detoxing is the Key to Successful New Year's Resolutions

Updated: Mar 24, 2023

You are entering week 3 of your New Year's Resolution to "Get back to the Gym," "Lose 10, 15, 25 pounds," "Join the Pickle Ball League," "Go Plant-Based," or similar change of habit. If you are like many of us, you've experienced some sore muscles, fatigues, crankiness, headaches, and the rapid loss of the first few pounds has hit that inevitable plateau. Have hope, your secret weapon is here!

Exercising and cleaning up our diet, whether for weight loss or overall health is a common New Year's resolution. Detoxing from all the sugary, rich, heavy foods (not to mention the alcohol) from the holidays is an essential yet often neglected component of annual New Year ritual. Out with the Old, In with the New.

Here are a few reasons why you should detox along with several detox options that go beyond 7 days of Apple Cider Vinegar and expensive juice cleanses.

THE CASE FOR DETOXING

"Detoxing, It's how your body gets rid of waste," Dr. Mark Hyman, author of the new book Food: What the Heck Should I Eat? explains. "If waste builds up, we get sick. The key becomes figuring out how to enhance our body’s capacity to detoxify and get rid of waste while minimizing our exposure to toxins."

Dr. Hyman explains that toxic chemicals — from food, air, the environment—are absorbed by the body every day. "According to the nonprofit organization Environmental Working Group, the average newborn baby has 287 known toxins in his or her umbilical cord blood," Dr. Hyman says. This means the mother is exposed to at least this many toxins on a daily basis, "so imagine how many you have been exposed to in your life," he says.

"The simple truth is that we are living in a sea of toxins and it is destroying our bodies and brains." - Mark Hyman

For a healthy person, the body's detoxing system is like a well-oiled machine. But if you start having digestive issues, your doctor tells you something is up with your liver, or you feel drained constantly, it means there's a kink in the system. "Also, if you're overweight, [toxic] environmental chemicals like pesticides and plastics are stored in your fat tissue," Dr. Hyman says. "As you lose weight, you need to flush out the toxins that get released from your fat tissue. Otherwise, they can poison your metabolism and impair weight loss."

Even if you aren't overweight, Dr. Hyman points out that toxicity has been linked to nearly every disease, including dementia, heart disease, food allergies, and digestive issues.

And if you are stressing your body with a new exercise routine, sport, diet or weight loss program, that stress places additional demand on the body's detoxing system. A little detoxing support can be the determining factor between achieving your goals or giving up on them.

How to detox

Now that you know why detoxing is important, the next question is: How do you do it?

1) Elimination Diets, Cleanses

Fortunately, Dr. Hyman's advice doesn't involve an all-liquid diet or skipping meals. (His new book offers a full detoxing plan, plus recipes.) But knowing where to start, that's sometimes tricky. For help with selecting which foods are actually causing harm to your body, in the form of allergies, sensitivities (such as gluten, salt, dairy, etc), Precision Wellness in Savannah offers a Nutrition DNA test from Dynamic DNA. You'll recieve a 30 page personalized report detailing the foods that wreak havoc with your system, foods to avoid, foods to eat in moderation and food that will optimize your weight. Why try a diet recommended by a friend when you can find the perfect diet for you based on your own genetic code?

And after you've received your results, we can match you with a Registered Dietician/Nutritionist to guide you through the process.

2) IV Vitamin Therapy or Intermuscular Injections:

Cleaning up your diet and sweating eliminate a host of toxins such as pollutants, some synthetic chemicals, processed foods, etc which can certainly negatively affect health.

However, popular detox diets rarely identify the specific toxins they aim to remove or the mechanism by which they supposedly eliminate them.

For the toxins that are committed to thier comfy accommodations in your liver, spleen, skin, kidneys, brain, etc, a change in diet alone typically will not remove them. Your body has a sophisticated way of eliminating toxins that involves the liver, kidneys, digestive system, skin, and lungs.

Still, only when these organs are healthy can they effectively eliminate unwanted substances.

You can optimize your body’s natural detoxification system through the support of IV Vitamin Therapy such as Super Detox Drip, or one of our Intermuscular Injections of a specific supplement.

3) Detox Your Lymphatic System

Our Lymphatic System plays a major role in removing toxins from our body. When it is overwhelmed with toxins, we experience any of the following symptoms: Stiffness (especially in morning), fatigue, bloating, breast swelling with each cycle, water weight, swollen ankles, puffy eyes, brain fog, stubborn weight gain, swollen glands, chronic sinusitis, sore throat, colds, ear infections, cellulite, cold hands and feet.

The Lymphatic system does not have a built-in pump like the heart. Therefore, the lymphatic system relies on the contraction and relaxation of the muscles and joints to move the lymph. The rhythmic tensing and relaxing of the muscles during physical movement wring out the tissues and propel fluid through the lymphatic channels. Exercise, massage, use of compression garments, compression boots like Normatec, massaging facials and even specific breath exercises and laughter are all ways to cleanse our lymphatic system.

4) A Cannabis Cleanse?

When it comes to wellness, pot is hot. It's making guest appearances in skin-care formulations, PMS remedies, topical pain relievers—and now, even cleanses.

Okay, so cannabis-fueled detoxes haven't exactly gone mainstream yet, but a group of marijuana advocates hopes that won't be the case for long, having recently laid out their manifesto in the new e-book Coming Clean with Cannabis: A New Kind of Cannabis Cleanse. Before you hop over to your local dispensary, order your essential Dynamic DNA Cannabis test and find the perfect strain for your genes. No more paranoia or nasty side effects.
